Sweets!

Since I mentioned weddings in my last post, I'm going to touch on an aspect of baking I want to become really good at. I'd really love to get my piping and decorating skills down so I can offer to bring baked goodies to events in PA and not feel embarrassed that they look like crapola. For my brother's wedding, I attempted to stir up some more exciting cookie options. I decided on key lime cookies, peanut butter pretzel  cookies/truffles, and oatmeal cherry. My little sister-in-law was visiting, so she helped me make all of them, and although I'm not a fan of citrus or too much fruit in my desserts, I was told all of them were yummy! The bad news?   Despite volunteering cookies for my sister-in-law's bridal shower, someone brought a tray of ::gasp:: store bought cookies and people saw them first I guess. I hate putting so much time into food and having to bring 99% home with me.

Oatmeal cherry which Hubby has requested since. They were pretty good despite not liking cherries very much.

These are the key lime cookies. I thought the recipe was really fun. Lots of lime zest! I felt like Giada De Laurentiis zesting away. As fun as they were to make, I didn't like them. I don't like citrus in desserts because the flavor is always too powerful. In my opinion, dessert isn't dessert unless there's a hefty amount of chocolate involved.

Speaking of which...holy hannah. These were D I V I N E. I chose peanut butter pretzel truffles selfishly because, well, they sounded so friggen good. And they were! Basically, you crumble pretzels, mix them with peanut butter ::drool:: and throw them into melted chocolate before setting them to freeze. The only problem was once they're out of the freezer, you need to eat FAST! They melted in your hand as soon as you picked one up. I have to say it was worth the mess. Peanut butter and chocolate can sign me up any day of the week.

::continues to drool::

Slaving away! I love when my little sister-in-law comes to visit. She loves to cook and bake, too, so it's fun to have a kitchen buddy.

Thanks for reading!
