Hubby reminded me the other day (with a slight whine detected ;) ) that I haven't made tiramisu in a while. I believe the last time I made it was for Thanksgiving last year. We attended his aunt and uncle's dinner here in VA, and we volunteered to bring dessert. I was pretty happy we decided on tiramisu because all of the other desserts were store bought pies. Anyway, on to the luscious goodness of homemade tiramisu!
Truthfully, I fell in love with tiramisu thanks to Olive Garden. I believe I first tried it there and it's become a favorite ever since. Again, I assumed the delicateness of this dessert would be too laborious to try at home. That is until my taste buds combined with my new-found cooking courage won the battle. Good old google led me to a recipe that seemed fairly straightforward while being a tad adventurous.
The only real challenge to this recipe was, oddly enough, finding lady fingers at the store! I'm trying to find the recipe I used (I usually bookmark my favs) but I guess I didn't save this one. This was a combination of mascarpone cheese, lady fingers and the rum to dip them in, vanilla, bittersweet chocolate shavings on the top, and one or two other things I'm completely blanking on. Overall, it's just layering the fingers, custard mix, fingers, custard, then chocolate shavings. Slightly chilled, this dessert friggen rocks! I prefer it almost frozen because the custard mix gets this icy texture that I just love. Now that Thanksgiving is around the corner, and I already made apple pie, maybe this should be on our menu!
